Traveling during the holidays can often be stressful and exhausting. Here are some healthy travel tips that will ensure you arrive at your destination looking and feeling your best!
1. Bring your own snacks when traveling. There are often limited healthy options in airports and rest stops, so stock up on foods like apples, carrots, and trail mix.
2. Stay away from food with a lot of sodium. When you fly, your body dehydrates very quickly. If you are compounding that with salty, greasy fast food, you will have major bloating and added stress on your body. Be sure to drink plenty of water during travel, and once you’ve arrived at your destination.
3. Start or finish your day with some exercise. If you don’t have access to a gym, and it is too cold to go outside, some simple stretches, paired with some push ups, squats, and ab work is always a great option.
4. Get some rest. Traveling anywhere, and especially into a different time zone, can be extremely wearing on your body. Try drinking some herbal tea, taking a hot shower or bath, and doing some light stretching before bed to help you wind down after a stressful day.
And finally.. Remember to BREATHE! Managing stress is imperative to your happiness. You can’t control the weather, flight delays, or unforeseen complications, but you can control how you treat your body, and how you react to others. Be grateful for your health, and compassionate to those who are less fortunate.
Until next time, I’m wishing you Happy, Healthy Holidays from Allison Wellness!
